Woods Hole, Maine, Calgary and what’s next…
A lot of people say, “hey Geoff, what’s next for ‘Do It Again?”
When can we buy it on DVD?
When will it be in theaters?
Can you show it at the little art house on my block?
How can I get a t-shirt?
Etc., etc.
So now that there’s a little break in the action – brought on by the arrival of Calvin Rudd Hempel-Edgers – I figure this is as good a time as any to explain the process from here on out.
Where can we see “Do It Again?”
We have a one-year license to show the film at film festivals throughout the world. That means, we’ve got until January 28, 2011 to screen at a festival near you. I like applying and like festivals. So expect a full slate of announcements over the next few weeks. I can tell you that in July we’ll be at the Maine International Film Festival in Waterville, the Sled Island Film Festival in Calgary in either late June or early July and, in August, we’ll play the Woods Hole Film Festival. Where else? We’re already accepted into a few others, but those festivals have asked us to keep it on the QT. So I’ll respect their wishes. Want DIA to come to your home festival? Just email me and ask me to apply. That’s why I just sent out an application to Milwaukee today.
Can I buy “Do It Again” on DVD?
Easy answer: No. To put out a DVD or to put our film on cable or to put it out on iTunes, we need to license the music and film clips for such media. We’d love to, but we’re going to need to sell the film first. That way, we get money to help us pay for our licensing. Just so you know, we did pay for licensing for film festival even though we receive no revenue from screenings. (Ticket sales go to the film festivals.) I will say we’ve taken an important, first step to getting our film sold. We have Louise Rosen working with us. She’ll be at film festivals and other industry events over the next few months trying to turn “Do It Again” into a film you can buy or see outside a festival. So if you want to make sure we get released, bring Louise a big bag of money.
How can I get a t-shirt or poster or something?
Our Kickstarter campaign has closed, but I’ll still honor your generosity. Just paypal me at gedgers@mac.com and also send a note about what you’d like and I’ll make sure to get a mini-poster or t-shirt your way. One thing: We don’t have XLs left and we’re running low on larges. We love people who fit into small shirts.

Looking forward to the Waterville Film Festival. Should be really nice up in Maine in July. Are the dates for the show established?
It seems to me that the film has a longer shelf life if the band doesn’t reunify. To Kinks fans yearning for a reunion, your film has a draw. But it becomes kind of irrelevant if they do a reunion, doesn’t it?
I am no expert on how these things work, but here are my two cents:
If The Kinks do a reunion tour, does your film stand a chance of being shown in theaters? And if it is not shown in theaters, what chance is there of seeing it on DVD?
Bummer man!
Although if I had my druthers, I’d rather see a Kinks reunion than your film.
No offense.
Hey Jay… I’d also love to see a reunion. I’m not sure that’s what the film’s about, though, and I think that the film would still draw people in if the guys got together. Of course, could be wrong. I’m just thinking of what we’ve received review-wise and also the fact that, in many cases, people with no real connection to the Kinks have connected to the movie. Have you seen it? Geoff
Hi Geoff, being a long time Kink fan myself, I’d love to see this movie. So sad with Pete’s passing that a ‘proper’ reunion will never happen – the Kinks were really the last of the big British Invasion bands to still have all of their original members alive.
I live in Sarasota, and we usually have a huge film festival each January – I would love to see your film come here.
Thanks!
John
