I think of him when I hear the bass on many of the good early Kinks songs. He seemed to be a very stabilizing influence on the group the relatively short time he was there. However, it seemed like the stress was not worth it and he just left. Can't blame him. However, if he could have stuck it out, you wonder if the Kinks have been able to put out even more great music over the years. This is a great touch.
